They’ll play for one night on Easter Thursday 1st April 2010 at the newly refurbished The Coronet, Elephant Castle as part of a Get Loaded special.

It’ll be Black Grapes’s first concert since 1997 and comes seven years after Ryder’s first band Happy Mondays started gigging again. This summer there could be more shows to coincide with the release of Shaun’s greatest hits album.

Black Grape - pictured in May 1995In 1995 Black Grape’s first album It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah delivered a trio of hit singles firmly establishing their position in music history; In The Name of The Father, Kelly’s Heroes and Reverend Black Grape. Later hits included Fat Neck, England’s Irie (with former Clash frontman Joe Strummer) and Get Higher.

“It’s great, it’s interesting, it’s part two. I’ve had a break and now I’m back to do it. Danny Saber and I have a great working relationship and the time is right” said Shaun Ryder.

It’s something of a coup for Get Loaded’s Danny Saber: “Shaun promised me many years ago after we successfully reunited the Happy Mondays that if Black Grape ever reformed it would be with Get Loaded” he said. “We’re delighted that he’s kept to his word and it’s amazing that coming off the back of last year with Orbital we are associated with another massive reunion”.

“Black Grape were a massive inspiration to me growing up although I wasn’t lucky enough to catch them first time round. For Black Grape to agree to host this reunion as part of an intimate club show makes this even more special.”

Tickets for the Black Grape Get Loaded concert are on sale now.
