The 81-year-old monarch has a ‘wicked sense of humour’ and loves imitating people’s accent, including that of her personal assistant, Liverpool-born Angela Kelly.

Angela told the Sunday Telegraph: ‘The queen has a wicked sense of humour and is a great mimic. She can do all accents – including mine!

‘I love the queen and everything about her. I adore her, then so does everyone. I do worry about her and care about her. But we also have a lot of fun together.’

In a frank interview approved by the queen’s staff, 55-year-old Angela – whose full job title is Personal Assistant, Adviser and Curator To Her Majesty the Queen (Jewellery, Insignias And Wardrobe) – said she enjoys
having normal chats with the monarch.

She said: ‘We are two typical women – we discuss clothes, make-up and jewellery. My job is to ensure that when the Queen meets people she looks right.

‘I don’t know why the Queen seems so fond of me because I don’t give her an easy time. I think she values my opinion but she is the one who is in control. She makes the final decision.’

Angela, who has worked for the queen since 1993, believes she will have a long and happy professional relationship with Queen Elizabeth.

She added: ‘My loyalty is to the queen and the girls I work with. If I died tomorrow, my girls have been trained to make sure that the Queen’s life carries on smoothly without me. But I hope the Queen and I grow old together.’
