Britain’s Princess Diana’s former butler – who worked for Diana for 10 years until her death in 1997 – was recently filmed boasting how he had lied at the inquest into Diana’s death.
Now he could be charged with perjury and could face up to 10 years in prison, but wife Maria insists she’ll be there for him no matter what
happens.
A source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: “Paul and Maria haven’t been without their problems but she has made it clear she’ll be there for him when it comes to the crunch. Paul could have landed himself in serious trouble and she is worried about him.”
Burrell, who recently denied claims he had split with Maria, was caught on camera admitting to his friend he had lied in his testimony at London’s High Court.
He said: “When you swear an oath, you have to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
“I told the truth as far as I could – but I don’t tell the whole truth. Perjury is not a nice thing to have to contemplate.
“I was very naughty and I made a couple of red herrings, and I couldn’t help doing it. I know you shouldn’t play with justice and I know it’s illegal and I realise how serious it is.”
Burrell is also heard in the video – which was shot at a New York hotel and obtained by Britain’s The Sun newspaper – telling his acquaintance: “Do you honestly think I’ve told everything I know? Of course I haven’t. I didn’t tell the whole truth.”
