Wicked Celebrates 2,500 Performances at the Apollo Victoria this Weekend

WICKED, the record-breaking musical that tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz, celebrates 2,500 performances at the Apollo Victoria theatre on Saturday (08.09.12).

The spell-binding show began its life on Broadway in 2003, then opened in the West End in 2006; since when it has broken a slew of box office records – notably one weekend in 2010 which passed the £1 million barrier – and earned a witches hat full of awards, including Olivier and Evening Standard gongs and eight from Whatsonstage.com.

“As Wicked enters its 7th year, we continue to be indebted and immensely grateful to everybody involved in the show,” said Michael McCabe, UK Executive Producer.

“It is through their passion, commitment and effort during every performance that we have been able to give almost five million theatregoers an unforgettable live theatre experience.”

As to the future, Wicked celebrates its sixth birthday on the London stage on 27 September; is rumoured to be going on a UK tour next year; is set, in October, to cast in the role of Elphaba Louise Dearman, who played Glinda last year, and Universal Pictures has confirmed that it is “taking steps forward” this year in producing the long-awaited movie version of the show.
