The Stay singer presented the collection at the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street and made an appearance at the end of the show wearing one of her own designs, a little black dress with spaghetti straps.

The 24-year-old star’s collection also included bright neon separates that are said to reflect her tropical Bajan roots, denim and patterned trousers.

“In a selfish way, I designed a collection that I could wear,” said Rihanna.

“The theme throughout the entire collection was easy, laid-back chick, flirty… not very conservative, but I think everyone can wear this line.

“It’s not too costumey, it’s not too sexy – it’s just very simple, very laid-back.”

Model of the moment Cara Delevingne sat front row at the fashion show along with Jourdan Dunn, who features in the campaign for the line.

Other names who attended the launch included Louis Smith, Laura Whitmore, Tyson Beckford, Mollie King and Rochelle Humes.

Rihanna for River Island is in London shops from 5 March.
