Twelve-year-old mute Dylan moves into a new apartment with his single father Michael. The property has a grim history - the previous owner purportedly died at home - and little Dylan's sense of unease is heightened by the absence of his mother. When Dylan stumbles upon an ancient text called The Book Of Shadows, the youngster foolishly summons a sinister genie to wish for an end to his silence.
