Mortuary owner Mr Thomas is delighted to have assistant Sybil Chamberlain by his side. She loves poetry and is fastidious with a steady flow of clientele but Sybil frequently seeks refuge in wish-fulfilment fantasies to escape the real world including the deaths of her family in a car accident when she was 10.
