The original members of the 80s group – who’s hits include Alive and Kicking and Let there be love – have reunited for the first time in 27 years.
The Scottish quintet – Brian McGee, Derek Forbes, Mick MacNeil, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill – have settled their differences and are heading back into the studio in June.
They are planning to release “at least two new tracks” before the end of the year.
Lead singer Kerr said: “I am excited about working with the original line-up again. I always believed it would happen. We have a lot to live up to, but we intend to have some fun attempting to do just that.”
Simple Minds were one of the biggest groups of the 80s, selling millions of records after achieving worldwide success in 1985 when their song Don’t You (Forget About Me) was used in the opening sequence of movie The Breakfast Club.
An official release on the band’s website says that Kerr and Burchill, who have toured together under the name Simple Minds, see the reformation as: “A nice experiment. The reformation is being viewed as one of many ‘let’s see what happens’ ideas that they look forward to working on over the course of the next year.”
