The 31-year-old frontman believes he has only two years to cement his musical legacy because no-one likes a chubby pop star.
He told The Sun: “I feel like you’ve got to write as many songs as you can between the ages of 28 and 33 because those are your last few years before you get a belly.
“I couldn’t possibly write a hit record when I’ve got a beer belly, so we’re just going to try to write as many songs as possible before that D-Day, or B-Day it should be – for Belly Day.”
The band’s fourth album Viva La Vida, Or Death And All His Friends went on sale yesterday, and is expected to top the UK album charts on Sunday with huge sales of close to 200,000.
Since their first LP Parachutes in 2000, Coldplay have sold in excess of 30 million albums worldwide, producing hits including Yellow, Clocks and Speed of Sound.
