The former model, who is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with Sir Paul McCartney, hopes competing in the hit BBC series will improve her public profile.
Heather, who appeared on the US version Dancing with the Stars earlier this year, is keen to take part in the special show next month – where celebrities from the UK and US series battle against each other.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Dancing with the Stars made Heather an unlikely celebrity in her own right in America. Straight after she was offered countless chat shows, reality TV programmes and high-profile magazine interviews.
‘Naturally she wants to don the sequinned gowns and feather boas over here in the hope that that same thing happens – and to try to rectify and reverse public perception. Heather approached producers and negotiated herself a £7,500 fee which she plans to give to animal rights charities.
‘She is really excited about the show and although she sees it primarily as damage limitation, she is absolutely desperate to win.’
The 39-year-old vegan was reportedly furious after producers refused to let her dance with her original professional partner Jonathan Roberts because he will be competing for the US.
However, TV bosses are said to have promised to team her up with flamboyant dancer Brendan Cole.
Heather’s desire to improve her image comes days after she appeared on several UK and US TV shows and verbally attacked her estranged husband. During her TV rants, Heather blamed Paul for the breakdown of their marriage, branded his daughter Stella ‘evil’, claimed she was left suicidal after receiving death threats and likened herself to the late Princess Diana.
Since her outburst, Heather has been dumped by her UK publicist Phil Hall and legal team Mischon de Reya.
