With the remnants of Nu Rave (circa 2007) still floating around, it’s nice to see a trip down sartorial memory lane can remain free of acid-coloured sportswear. Enter Katy Perry, the spunky singer with the famously enviable collection of vintage.

Belting out lyrics about electric car-driving losers and sexual experimentation doesn’t exactly fit with her ’40s pinup/’50s lady appearance, but the look seems to work for Katy’s boyfriend, Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy.

Hot pants seem to be required for many of Katy’s appearances, but for a more modest (read: covered-up) approach to retro, try this dainty dress from the spring collection at Liberty. Pair with tights and a cardigan for cooler days.

Even those scared of bugs can take comfort in a figure-flattering new outfit, no?
