In the summer of 1991, 11-year-old Lacy traipses through adolescence in rural Western Massachusetts with her mother Janet. Lacy is a wildly imaginative child and yearns for stimulation. Their cosy bubble is burst by three interlopers, Janet's live-in boyfriend Wayne, old friend Regina and self-anointed mystic Avi. The visitors are entranced by Janet but young Lacy doesn't share their enthusiasm.
