The 23-year-old royal – who is helping to rebuild a special needs school in the African kingdom of Lesotho, with his charity Sentebale – was desperate to get Nicholas to join him on the pitch so he could show off his soccer skills.

A source said: “He ran up to Nicholas Witchell and started yelling, ‘Where are your trainers? Where are your trainers? Come on, you’re playing!’ ”

When Nicholas declined the offer, Harry turned his attention to Duncan Larcombe – the royal reporter for The Sun – and proceeded to flash Loser hand signs at the journalist when he lost the game.

Nicholas is no stranger to being targeted by the royal family.

In 2005, Harry’s father Prince Charles was heard telling Harry and his other son Prince William: “These b****y people. I can’t bear that man Witchell. I mean, he’s so awful, he really is.”
