Prince Harry became notorious for “borrowing” cigarettes during his time in Afghanistan.

The 23-year-old prince claimed he had stopped smoking before he joined troops in the war-torn country last December, but soon retreated to his bad habits under the pressure of the frontline.

Sergeant Dean Barnes told The Times: “It was all top secret when he arrived here and we didn’t have a clue. He came around chatting to us all and he was a nice bloke.

“I had seen him in the papers smoking, but he tried to put across that he was a non-smoker before he started asking us for cigarettes. He still owes us a few.”

Last year, Harry vowed to quit his 20-a-day smoking habit, which he picked up when he was a 14-year-old schoolboy at Eton College.

Harry returned to the UK on March 1, after secretly fighting the Taliban in the dangerous Helmand Province for 10 weeks. He was forced to cut short his 14-week tour when details of his deployment
were leaked in the foreign media.
The prince is currently enjoying a romantic holiday in Africa with his
long-term girlfriend Chelsy Davy.
