The 15-year-old actress – who plays rebellious teenager Jenny Humphrey on the hit US TV show – is now on “aggressive antibiotics” for the illness after being released from hospital yesterday (22.10.08), according to her doctor Shawn Nasseri.
Nasseri, who treated Momsen at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said: “I have been treating Taylor Momsen for the last few days. She has been hospitalised for a severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection since Sunday (19.10.08).
“She has been an excellent patient, and after aggressive antibiotics and medications, she is expected to make a full recovery in the next three to five days.”
Momsen was said to be unaware of the seriousness of her condition, but went to see a doctor after she “woke up with a sore throat” ahead of a school exam.
A source close to the star said: “She thought it was just a common cold, but was advised to see an ear, nose and throat specialist before getting on a plane back to New York. Her mom flew out to get her, and is flying back to New York with Taylor this week.”
The blonde beauty is expected to return to work on the teen drama by the end of the week.
A statement from US TV network CW, who broadcast the series, said: “Taylor Momsen is a beloved member of our ‘Gossip Girl’ cast and we are happy to report she is on the road to a speedy recovery. We all look forward to her planned return to work on Friday (24.10.08).”
