The recently-reformed group made their first UK appearance for 14 years at HMV‘s flagship shop on Oxford Street and were amazed when 1,000 fans turned up to see them, some of whom had camped out from 7am on Sunday (07.09.08) to ensure they met their idols.
Singer Donnie Wahlberg said: “For their still to be so much love for us in the UK is awesome. We are thrilled so many people took the time out to come and see us.”
A total of 200 wristbands allowing fans to attend a special autograph-signing session were snapped up within seconds yesterday morning (08.09.08). A further 800 fans were allowed into the shop to watch the group perform in the evening.
HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: “This must be the largest PA we’ve done in recent years, so big it forced us to close the store while the event was taking place – something we have done only a handful of time.”
The band thrilled fans by singing their classic hits Step By Step and Tonight, while they also performed Summertime and Single from their new album.
Tickets for the group’s UK tour go on sale on Friday (12.09.08) and singer Jordan Knight has assured fans their dance routines will be just as sharp as in their heyday.
He said: “In rehearsals we do four to five hours so we can hang with two hours of a show – that’s nothing.”
