Vanity Fair’s Oscar party has been cancelled.

The magazine has decided to scrap its annual glitzy Los Angeles post-awards bash, scheduled for the night of the Academy Awards on February 24, in support of the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike.
A statement on Vanity Fair’s website read: “After much consideration, and in support of the writers and everyone else affected by this strike, we have decided that this is not the appropriate year to hold our annual Oscar party.
“We want to congratulate all of this year’s nominees and we look forward to hosting our 15th Oscar party next year.”
The Vanity Fair party is considered the most glamorous and exclusive post-Oscars event, with a guest list strictly reserved for A-list stars and VIPs.
The bash is not the first victim of the industrial action taken by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which began last November over pay issues. Last month, the Golden Globes ceremony was cancelled and replaced with a press conference over fears most stars would boycott the event in support of the strike.
There are also fears it could affect the red carpet arrivals at the Oscars, although organisers are adamant the event at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre will go ahead.
