Details of next week’s UEFA Champions Festival at the Olympic Park have been released, with football legends Vítor Baia, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Cafu and Robert Pires, the former Arsenal flyer, all set to appear at the event scheduled to coincide with the two Champions League finals, both held in London this year.

The festival kicks off a week tomorrow (23.05.13) with a day dedicated to women’s football in the lead up to the that night’s Women’s Champions League final between VfL Wolfsburg and Olympique Lyonnais at Stamford Bridge; on Friday 24, the stars mentioned above enter the scene as the focus switches to futsal – the small sided sided version of the game that helps develop close control skills; Saturday is all about the men’s Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, and Sunday highlights disability football.

“This year’s UEFA Champions Festival is going to be better than ever and it is fantastic to have the event in Stratford as the area really came alive last summer for London 2012,” said former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman, currently working as a UEFA ambassador.

McMamanan was singing from the same hymn sheet as London Mayor Boris Johnson, who said before: “[The festival] will provide a fantastic week-long family event and will revive the spirit of community and celebration that made last year’s Olympic Games so special.”
