Over a million British lovers book hotels spontaneously on Valentine’s Day (14.02.13), a study by Hotels.com suggests.

Extrapolating from a poll of 2,000 UK residents, Hotels.com found that 1.4 million people arrange some kind of makeshift accommodation on 14 February.

One in ten of those do so because they still live with their parents, but they can’t hide their antics that easily: 3.4 million Brits have admitted seeing their colleagues do the “walk of shame” by coming into work the next day wearing the same clothes.

Alison Couper, from Hotels.com, said: “It comes as no surprise that Valentine’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year for hotel bookings.

“But what’s interesting is that we’re seeing Brits get more spontaneous with their plans – with some only committing to booking a hotel at the very last minute when they know their date is going well.”
