Ruth Leon is a writer and broadcaster specialising in theatre and all the performing arts, an especially cabaret. Ruth is Artistic Director of Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Zedel, London’s newest cabaret bar, bringing the artform of ‘classic cabaret’ back to London.
As well as her many other facets, Ruth directs and occasionally appears in cabarets throughout the world. GEORGE GERSHWIN’S AMERICAN RHAPSODY, a revue she wrote and directed, off-Broadway and in London, with New York cabaret stars, KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler ran for nearly a year at the Triad Theatre to huge critical and public acclaim. She has also directed revues and cabarets with Patricia Hodge, Rosemary Ashe, Steve Ross, Liz Robertson, K.T. Sullivan, Mark Nadler and Michael Law. She is a popular speaker and teaches theatre and television at university level in the United States and Europe.
At this event, which includes footage, film and music of the genre, Ruth traces the history of cabaret, particularly in London and the UK.
