Biopic charting the meteoric rise of Ray Charles from his traumatic childhood in 1930s Georgia, through the swinging 1950s and his fateful introduction to drugs on the burgeoning club scene, and onto the mid-1960s when Charles weaned himself off cocaine, but not before being banned from performing in his home state for refusing to play a racially segregated concert.
