In medieval Rajasthan, queen Rani Padmavati is happily married to noble king Maharawal Ratan Singh. They live in prosperity within a heavily protected fortress. Ambitious sultan Alauddin Khilji, who rules over a neighbouring empire, learns about Padmavati’s legendary beauty and he becomes obsessed with possessing her, even though he has a wife, Mehrunisa. Alauddin instigates an invasion of Maharawal’s realm, laying siege to the fortress until the king agrees to give up his greatest treasure.
