In the aftermath of the bombing of a train which kills many of the passengers, romantic novelist Emily Delahunty invites three of her fellow survivors back to her exclusive villa to recuperate. An aging British general, young German man Werner and orphaned American girl Aimee accept Mrs Delahunty’s kind offer and bask in the idyllic lifestyle, until Aimee’s bullish uncle, Thomas Riversmith turns up to drag the girl back home to an uncertain future.
