Ten-year-old Eric is horrified when his mother packs him and his adored dog Lupe off to stay with his errant father in one of the less salubrious parts of downtown Bogota. The patriarch earns a meagre crust as a handyman and struggles to make ends meet from one week to the next. Eric accompanies his father on jobs and is delighted to meet university teacher Maria Isabel, who generously vows to help the boy and his father.
