Black Mother (15)

An expressionist tribute to Jamaican history, culture, spirituality and philosophy. Loosely structured as the trimesters of a pregnancy, Black Mother incorporates myriad film stocks including 16mm black-and-white and moving testimonies from men and women across the generations. These outpourings address Jamaica’s tumultuous past and present from the abolition of African slavery in the mid-19th century to the present day impoverished communities, who sometimes have to sell their bodies.
