Former rugby star Max is estranged from his wife Emily, who is attempting to raise their two children with the help of a new lover. While Emily struggles to be a good parent, Max ricochets between various anonymous lovers, while hungrily snorting cocaine. Meanwhile, taxi driver George and his wife Kathy are desperate to become parents and choose to adopt. Also, small-time drug dealer Kingsley is tired of feeding off the vulnerable and he draws inspiration from a veteran actor called Terence to pursue a new calling in the arts.
