Half Moon

Bahman Ghobadi’s 2006 road movie revolves around aging Kurdish musician Mamo, who lives in Iran with his large family. In the aftermath of the fall of Saddam Hussein, Mamo is finally granted permission to perform a concert in Iraqi Kurdistan – an invitation that almost comes too late with the old man’s failing health and visions of impending doom. Determined that the show must go on, even if he can’t, Mamo hires an old bus and marshals his sons to join him for the journey across the border to their musical destiny. He also illegally smuggles a female singer on board and so the troupe sets off on a journey of self-discovery interspersed with flights of fancy.
